Kaufman County Sub Court House Renovation
The Xeric garden has been a big part of my childhood. Hidden outside the garden stood a tree that held a geocache I was proud to have discovered. To keep the garden's integrity, an equal volume to the existing structure is projected to the side of the garden and a breezeway connects the two buildings. Programs can then be separated with the courts and offices having their own respective spaces. The glass curtain wall wrapping the garden allows workers and visitors to experience nature at all times.
Booker T Washington School
Booker T Washington School in Forney Texas was demolished in 2014 due to high renovation costs. The building served black families in Forney with primary education until its closure. This new proposal considers the importance of education in marginalized communities, with an art gallery, Blackbox performance theatre, and work spaces for local communities. The theatre and workspaces are separated by an atrium which shows the mass timber structure that extends outside into the backyard community garden.
What do you want in a home?
That is the question I asked myself when developing this quick concept. Efficiency, simplicity, and economy are all considered in this single-family residence. Structural masonry walls serve as thermal massing, with storefront windows capturing the southern light. A breezeway places the garage and living under one roof.
